Booking a taxi

How do I book a taxi in Melbourne's north?

Book online in about a minute on this page, or call (03) 9009 0051 any time, day or night. Enter your pickup and drop off, pick the car, add your details and confirm, and the booking arrives by email.

Is 13 Taxi North Suburban open 24 hours?

Yes. We take bookings and run taxis 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including early morning airport runs, late nights and public holidays.

Can I book a taxi in advance?

Yes. Choose "Book for later" and set the date and time. Booking ahead is the safe choice for early flights, hospital appointments and anything where the time matters.

Should I choose a fixed price or the meter?

Choose a fixed price if you want to know the cost before you travel: it is agreed when you book and only changes if the destination or route changes on the day, or you add stops. On the meter you pay what the meter shows at the end of the trip, which can come in under or over the estimate depending on traffic.

Can I book a return trip?

Yes. Tick "Add a return trip" on the last step of the booking form and set the return date and time. Both legs are priced together before you confirm.

How do I cancel or change a booking?

Call (03) 9009 0051 or email 13taxinorthsuburban@gmail.com. Cancelling or changing is free with at least two hours notice; a late cancellation fee may apply after that, and we always tell you the amount first.

Is 13 Taxi North Suburban part of 13cabs?

Add your flight number when you book. We check the arrival time, so a late landing does not cost you the car.

How many people fit in a taxi?

A sedan or SUV takes up to 4 passengers. A maxi taxi takes up to 11 passengers with 8 large bags, so a group or family travels in one car.

Do you deliver parcels?

What cars are available for corporate travel?

Yes. Maxi taxis seating up to eleven each are the usual answer for guest transfers. Tell us guest numbers and the venues and we work out how many cars and what timings are needed.

How far ahead should we book wedding cars?

As early as you can. Saturdays through spring and autumn book out well in advance in Melbourne, and holding cars for a specific day is easier the earlier it is arranged.

Can you take guests home at the end of the night?

Fares and payment

How are Melbourne taxi fares calculated?

A Melbourne taxi fare is a flag fall charged once, then either a rate per kilometre while the car is moving or a rate per minute while it is stopped or crawling in traffic, never both together. Which of the three tariffs applies, day, evening, or the Friday and Saturday night peak, depends on when the trip starts. The day rate is a flag fall of $5.40, $2.10 per kilometre or $0.70 per minute. Tolls, an airport pickup fee, a larger vehicle and any extras are added only when they actually apply, and each shows as its own line in the estimate.

Is the online fare a fixed price?

No. The figure the fare calculator shows is an estimated fare, based on the distance and time of travel and including tolls and the airport fee where they apply. Traffic, route changes, waiting time and extras can change the final fare. If you want a fixed price, call (03) 9009 0051 or email 13taxinorthsuburban@gmail.com and we will agree a fixed fare with you before you travel.

Can I get a fixed price taxi to Melbourne Airport?

Yes. Call (03) 9009 0051, email 13taxinorthsuburban@gmail.com or send the trip through our fixed quote form with your pickup address, flight time and the car you need, and we will agree a fixed fare to or from Melbourne Airport before you travel. A fixed quote is the price for the trip as quoted. If the trip changes, for example an extra stop or more passengers, we tell you the new price before we go ahead. As a guide, the estimated fare for a sedan from the Melbourne CBD to the airport is $64 to $79 on the day rate, including the toll.

Is there a late night surcharge on Melbourne taxis?

Yes, though it is a different rate rather than a set surcharge added on top. Evenings and overnight (5pm to 9am) charge a flag fall of $6.75, then $2.30 per kilometre or $0.80 per minute, and Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm to 4am, along with public holidays, charge $8.00, then $2.55 per kilometre or $0.85 per minute. The estimate you see before booking already uses the right rate for your pickup time.

Do I pay the airport toll and pickup fee?

Only where they apply. A toll is added when your route really uses a toll road, such as CityLink from the city, and many routes from the north and west carry none. The airport pickup fee of $5.26 only applies when you are collected from a terminal, so a drop off at the airport does not carry it while a pickup does. Both are already in the estimate you see.

How can I pay for my taxi?

Cash, credit card, Cabcharge or MPTP, paid to the driver in the car. There is nothing to pay when you book, no deposit and no account required. Corporate account customers are invoiced monthly instead.

For five or more passengers, usually yes. A maxi carries a surcharge over a sedan, but one maxi almost always costs less than two separate sedan fares for the same trip, and everyone arrives at the same time.

How are taxi fares worked out?

Fares follow the published Victorian taxi tariff: a flag fall plus a rate per kilometre, with tolls and fees added where they apply. The day rate runs 9am to 5pm, the evening and overnight rate 5pm to 9am, and a higher rate applies late on Friday and Saturday nights and on public holidays. The minimum fare is $18.00.

A sedan from Melbourne Airport to the CBD usually costs $69 to $85 on the day rate. That includes the CityLink toll and the $5.26 airport pickup fee, which is why it costs a little more than the same trip out to the airport. Put both addresses into the estimator for the figure for your exact trip.

Yes, but only on pickups. Melbourne Airport charges taxis a $5.26 access fee for every pickup at the terminals, and it shows as its own line in your fare. Dropping off at departures carries no airport fee.

At Terminal 4 we confirm the meeting point when we confirm your booking. With meet and greet, the driver waits for you inside arrivals instead.

Which terminal do you pick up from at Melbourne Airport?

All four. Terminal 1 is Qantas domestic, Terminal 2 is international, Terminal 3 is Virgin Australia, and Terminal 4 serves Jetstar, Rex and Link. Tell us your airline or flight number and the driver goes to the right one.

Do you go to Avalon Airport and Essendon Fields too?

Yes. Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine is where most of our airport trips go, but we run to Avalon Airport and Essendon Fields as well. Enter either one as your pickup or drop off and the estimator prices it the same way.
